Golf Putting Tips: How To Use The Plumb-bobbing Technique Effectively

best golf swing lessonsPlumb-bobbing has been around for many years in terms of golf putting tips.

The golf putting tips relating to the plumbing principle are based on the proposition that a straight vertical device whose bottom point is focused on an object with its top point focused on another object will indicate any difference between the level ot the two objects

Golfers have adapted this plumbing principle to putting for many years. They apply it by standing behind their ball facing the cup and placing the bottom part of their putter  shaft  in line with their ball  and the top part of the shaft in line with the cup from their dominant eye line of vision.

They then assume if the top part of the putter shaft points to the right of the cup, the ball will break the same degree to the left.  If on the other hand if the putter shaft points to the left of the cup the ball will break proportionately to the  right.

However, some of the golfing gurus have issues with this golf method of putting. There now is some healthy debate about the reliability of plumb-bobbing in putting.

I am in some doubt about its reliability if used exclusively in determining a break of a putt.

However, I think these golf putting instructions can be used in combination with other techniques to determine a putt break. In addition, I have found it to be more reliable  if there is plumb-bobbing from the cup to the ball as well as from the ball to the cup.The application is the same except in reverse. That is, you stand behind the cup facing the ball with the bottom part of the putter shaft being placed in line with the center of the cup and the top part of the putter shaft in line with the ball. This way, they do provide some reliable golf putting tips.

Considering the ball is likely to break more proportionately nearer the cup, this reverse type of plumb-bobbing may be more indicative of the amount of the overall break although both the direct as well as the reverse plumb-bobbing should be considered in determing the amount ot the break.

A complimentary technique to determine the break of a putt is to stand behind the cup facing the ball, lock the knee joints and then hold the putter shaft horizintally.

Then lock both elbows. The degree the putter shaft tilts to the right or to the left should provide some reliable indication of the break of the putt. Of course, you also could use this complimentary technique in reverse order by doing the same by standing behind the ball facing the cup.

Each one of these techniques can be completed in a matter of seconds and when considered all together should give a reliable indication of the break of the putt. Some sound golf putting tips, indeed

Keep in mind that even with these techiques the average golfer does not allow for enough break. Therefore , if you are going to favor more or less break, go for more.

If you use a combination of all four ways to study a break on each green you should knock a few stokes off your score in no time flat.
